Hysteresis of an Inductive proximity switch

The switching hysteresis of an Inductive proximity switch describes the distance between the turn-on point while approaching an object and the turn-off point during the separation of it from the sensor. The hysteresis brings about a stable switching signal even when there are vibrations, temperature drift, or electrical variations. The hysteresis is defined in EN60947-5-2 as a maximum 20 % from the effective operating distance, and carries a value of typically 10 % from the effective operating distance sr for our sensors.

Hysteresis

The switching hysteresis describes the distance between switching on and switch off. So if there was a level sensor and you had a high level alarm configured, then the alarm may switch on at 90%, but in order for the alarm to clear the level would need to fall below (for example) 85%.

Hydrostatic level sensor

hydrostatic level sensor is used to measure the pressure created by a liquid. The greater the height of the liquid, the greater the pressure. The sensor needs to be close to the bottom of the tank and either fitted on the outside via a thread or a flange, or entering into the top of the tank and then attached to the bottom. The pressure creates movement of a flexible piece of metal or ceramic, known as a diaphragm, a bit like a drum, and the position of the diaphragm is measured and a signal is produced that relates to the level of liquid in the tank. As a hydrostatic sensor needs to be in contact with the product then we need to ensure that the materials are compatible, and any aggressive medium doesn’t eat away at the instrument. Most sensor are made from stainless steel which is usually fine, but for nasties such as acids then we can provide sensors made from engineered plastics that will suit the conditions.

Housing material

The housing material determines the chemical resistance of the sensor against external influences. For special applications, special housing materials are available.

Historical information

Historical information is past data relating to the measured variable. Our vendor managed inventory software Gateway stores all data from the first time the IN4MA is switched on.
