HOW DO GUIDED WAVE RADAR SENSORS WORK?
Guided wave radar is an invasive level measurement technique, based on the principal of microwaves. A rod or cable probe is employed to direct the microwave pulses towards the medium. The waves reflect off the product surface back to the sensor. The sensot calculates level from time taken and the programmed tank height.
Radar level transmitters are fixed at the top of the vessel, with the rod in direct contact with the medium to the bottom of the vessel.
WHEN TO USE GUIDED WAVE RADAR SENSORS
Guided wave radars are well-suited to environments with shifting process conditions, because they are not affected by changes in temperature, pressure and product-specific gravities. This technology can be considered for foaming-intense applications. The high degree of accuracy from guided radar sensors make them ideal for both liquid and solid level measurement, typically used in industries spanning oil and petrochemical to cements and additives.
Hygienic options are available for the food and pharmaceutical applications.
Separation layers in liquids are commonly measured using this technique.
BENEFITS OF GUIDED WAVE RADAR SENSORS
The primary advantage of guided wave radar is that the signal is very concentrated and focused onto the cable or rod, meaning factors such as surface turbulence, vapours and tank obstructions will not influence the readings. This also minimises the chance of signal degradation, meaning very high accuracy and reliable measurements. Neither dust nor condensation have major effect on guided wave radar. Radar level sensors are highly durable, reliable and accurate sensors.
